I had this great rant

About nuclear power, linked to articles about Three Mile Island and Chernobyl, mentioned all the safely operating nuclear plants on Navy ships of many nations (except France, of course), and when I went looking for a picture of Homer Simpson “at the office”, my ‘puter crashed.

Dammit.

I even mentioned some alternative power sources, and linked to a nice picture of the Palm Springs wind farms. Power scales, inversion layers, and I thought it was relatively well written, too.

All gone.

Dammit.

Short version: Nuclear power is about the only alternative we have to cut oil demand. They can be run safely, if procedures are scrupulously followed. We should seriously look into it, especially here in California.

Nuff said.

Teflon Tony' gets his job back

Prime Minister Tony Blair won re-election as polls closed across England earlier today, taking office for the third consecutive term, the first time that has happened for Blair’s Labour Party (which is actually the more liberal party) in more than a century.

Along with Australian PM John Howard (who also won recent re-election this last October), Blair was an integral part of the trio of world leaders that created the Coalition of the Willing that freed millions from tyranny and despotism, acting pro-actively to put an end to an ongoing and unacceptable threat from Iraq.

I would like to extend my thanks to him for standing up for what is right, rather than what was popular.

That doesn’t mean that I agree with him on the specifics of his politics, but that’s irrelevant.

Summer's still coming

Still warming up to the Patriot’s Journey later this month. So far, we’ve only got a few who have agreed to make the posts every day, and I appreciate each and every one of them.

For those who are just joining us, last year I simply decided to make at least one positive post about America, her citizens, and her military every day from Memorial Day to Independence Day. I will be doing the same again this year. If you wish to join in, by all means, go right ahead. The more the merrier, and links are shared just to combine the effect. We get enough people together, maybe we can get Janeane Garofalo to actually pledge allegiance to the flag instead of burning it…

(Ah, who am I kidding? She’s the one who said, “So when I see the American flag, I go, ‘Oh my God, you’re insulting me.’” and “‘We’re here, we’re queer!’—that’s what makes my heart swell. Not the flag, but a gay naked man or woman burning the flag. I get choked up with pride.”)
